2. Open front door with part of foyer showing some of interior. |
3. Corridor to left inside, leading to shop. |
|
The white column to the
right-hand side of image 1 (with 2 plaques) is the pier for the
telescope. It goes all the way up through the building without touching
it. This isolates the mechanism from the building, which could be moved
or buffetted by strong winds. This would in turn cause blurring of
deep-space photographic images which need long-exposure times -
sometimes requiring in the region of several hours exposure for each
image.

A fully-equipped maintanance area (the workshop) is a neccessity when parts wear out and need replacing. |

Office 01: CES "relaxes" among the many computers that "assist" today's up-to-date astronomer. The modern computer helps speed up all areas of astronomical research, such as the drawing up of new and revised star-charts. |

18. Telescope with
attached eyepiece clearly visible.
|
17. Dome with telescope
just visible. A little too wide for my lens. Could do better with a
good wide-angle lens.
|
19. This is the "business
end" of the telescope when the dome is open.
|
|
Unfortunatly, there are no enlargements available for these three images ... ... however, I think the three below more than make up for their lack! |
||
|
Telescope 01: Set to
visual - eyepiece at left is visible.
|
Telescope 02: 5 different
eyepieces, of varying magnification, are clearly visible toward the
bottom right.
|
Telescope 03: CES
prepares for the night's work.
