We have upgraded the drives of the 22-inch telescope so it can now be completely controlled by computer, as well as manual control with a joystick.  This was brought about by the second failure in just a few years of one of the old drives’ electronic components.  Repair or partial replacement would have left us in the same predicament, so we decided on complete replacement.  It is indeed a joy to sit at the computer and enter a command, and then watch the telescope move to the new object all by itself.  It is highly accurate, too, placing the new object dead center of the field of view.
